Two Die in Area Crashes;Holiday Warning
A Glen Gardner service station operator,John E.DeRemer Sr.,55 was killed yesterday when a garbage truck crashed through the side of his building.State police at Clinton said DeRemer was in the service station with Douglas H.Brands,40,of 2503 Seip Ave.,Palmer Township,when the truck,pushing a parked car before it,smashed into the building.Also injured were DeRemer's son John Jr.,23,and his wife Angeline,52,who were in the building.They were treated and released at the hospital.DeRemer was dead on arrival at the medical center.Mr.DeRemer was prisedent of DeRemer;s Garage Inc,the last 25 years.Born in Washington,N.J.on Aug 16,1919,he was a son of the late Ervin and Ethel Crater DeRemer.He lived most of his life in Glen Gardner,moving to Hampton four years ago.
He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the West Hunterdon Veterans Association Inc.,Milford,Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association,Hunderton Hills Lions Club,New Jersey and National Automobile Dealers associations,GMC Advisory Council,a committee member of Boy Scout Troup 125 Glen Gardner and a member of St.Peter's Episcopal Church Washington.He was serving the first year of a three year term as a Hampton borough councilman.Survivors include his widow,the former Angelene Grotheer;a son John Jr.,Hampton;a daughter,JoAnn,at home;and a brother,Ervin,High Bridge.The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m.Saturday at the Zimmerman Funeral Home;Hampton,followed by services at 3 p.m.in St.Peter's Church.
