de Ridder Origin & descendants

As I was just about to give up hope, I stumble upon this site.

My surname is de Ridder (obviously - why else would I be here?), I live in sunny South Africa (where the lions and elephants roam in our tarmac streets!) LOL - so most foreigners believe!!!

Anyway, in SA there are numerous de Ridders, but it seems that the majority were from the Eastern Cape (Dutch settlement in 1652, the British Settlers in 1820 in Eastern cape). Which raises an interesting question? Am I from Dutch or Belgian origin?

I apologise for the "author-style" writing, but when the pen itches - I scribble!

If anyone can confirm the family crest of de Ridder, I have a copy of the family crest!

email me a copy and I will reciprocate with my copy!
Regards Jacques
