DeRosier Family Genealogy Forum
Seeking info on Desrosiers family of St. Paul de Joliette. My husband's ancestor, Gaspard (Joseph) Desrosiers married Fridolene (Fredoline) Chaput either in Quebec or somewhere in the U.S. The family resided and was enumerated in Laveyrandrye, Provencher, Manitoba in the 1881 Canadian Census. Residing in the household: Gaspard, age, 30, farmer; Fredoline, age 22; both born in Quebec; Victoria, age 4, born in the U.S.; and Remond, age 2, born in Manitoba. Gaspard's parents were Elizabeth Desautels and Stanislas Desrosiers of Quebec.
After Fridolene's death, Gaspard married Derilda Moreau and is found residing in Olga, North Dakota in the 1885 Dakota Census; after Gaspard's death, Derilda married Stanislaus Desrosiers, who was Gaspard's cousin. After Derilda's death, Stanislaus married Georgette Gagnon. We find Remond (Raymond) residing in Rhode Island in the 1920 Census. I have been told that after age 14 he is no longer recorded in the Olga, No.Dakota school system. It's little wonder that on Raymond's death certificate in Taunton, Massachusetts, his father is listed as Joseph Desrosiers and his mother is listed as "unknown."
I am seeking info on Joseph Gaspard's birth date as well as info on the Stanislaus Desrosiers family of St. Paul de Joliette. I am aware that Desrosiers had a "dit" name, but am uncertain what it is/was which has prevented me from delving further into the Quebec genealogy of this family. If someone could assist me with the "dit" name for this family, I would be very thankful. I also know that a Magloire Desrosiers is part of this family. I believe that Magloire was perhaps the father to Stanislaus the father of Joseph Gaspard. However, Magloire also had a son named Magloire, who had the Stanislaus that married Derilda Moreau Desrosiers, Joseph Gaspard's cousin. A very confusing situation sorting all these Desrosiers out! Thanks for any assistance anyone can offer! Ruth
