We could still have the same person. People died young then especially since the civil war was going on when Julia was a young woman. I will try to check my information on her last name. As for the spelling of Lewis, it frequently depended on the whim of the census taker or clerk recording the information. It makes things difficult for researchers but not impossible. Did your group go to Missouri? There are some in this group who went to California and some who went to Texas. Unfortunately for me I have more information on these groups than my own. I have the same birthdate for William Alexander as you do. I also have child Nathaniel born 1862, and Elwina born 1865. I have William with sisters Sarah Jane (born 1843), Martha E. (born 1844) and brother John W. (born 1848).
