Bertha Melinda DeRossett was born 26 Nov 1885 in Rising Star, Eastland County, TX, and died 18 Nov 1959 in Abilene, TX. Her parents were Benjamin F. DeRossett (1846-1917) and Harriet Josephine Phillips DeRossett (1850-1899).
Bertha married Wesley Kirk Hawkins on 21 Mar 1906. She and Kirk had four children: Garnet H. (1908-?), Effie M. (1911-?), Viola Lucille (1913-?), and Alvin E. (1917-1941).
Bertha's older sister, Minerva Ann DeRossett was born 19 Jun 1881 in Cado, Stephens County, TX, and died 5 Sep 1946 in Abilene, TX. Minerva married Kirk's brother, Homer Z. Hawkins, about 1905. She and Homer had six children:
Beatrice Josephine (1906-1997), Benjamin Luther (1908-1963), Harl Pierce (1910-1981), Homer Lloyd (1914-1986), Elmer Floyd (1916-1985), and Effie Thelma (1917-1988).
