Troy

In the register of citizenship of Oberglatt(chronicle of 1863, publ.by Pastor H.Diener) there is one person among the many Derrer families, named Adolf born 1854 ("ph" at the end of surname was very unusual in those days). His father, Johannes Derrer, b.1823, was married twice: 1st wife = Barbara Aeppli (died 1855), children: Adolf b.1854, Albertina b. 1855 (!)
2nd wife = Maria Elisabeth Luethi (of Stett- furt), b. 1825, children: Paulina b. 1857
& Hermann b. 1860
Grandfather of Adolf = Heinrich(Henry)Derrer,
1 uncle of Adolf = Hans Jakob Derrer, 1 son (Karl) & 2 daughters
The family name "Derrer" is derived from
"doerren/derren", which means to dry, to roast (flax, hemp or fruit for ex.) The name
was mentioned the first time in 1244 in Zurich and in Oberglatt (Canton of Zurich)in
1384.
If you need more information let me know.
Kurt
