Firmin (Ferman)DeSoto and Melissa Waters are my husband's grandparents on his mother's side. We have not been able to go back much further than maybe Firmin's father, Ferman, who was born about 1814.

They were known to have been in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana in late 1880, later moving to Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. The father, Firmin, Sr. might have lived in "No Man's Land between Louisiana and Texas, but this is pure speculation. I have no actual proof.

There are some who speculate that our DeSoto family is connected to the DeSoto family of the Baillio/St. Denis family. I have been unable to find any proof of this fact.
