I was born in Matanzas, Cuba, This last name apparently is in Cuba since the early colonization, if you search websites about genealogy you'll find info of an early presence in Cuba. Is important to note the probably all the Sotolongo's lived in Cuba. Once I read in a book about architecture that one of the castles at the entrance of Havana Harbor was built on a land donated or sale it for a Sotolongo. I'm talking late 1500 early 1600.
I lived in Dominican Republic in 1990 and the people get surpised for my last name.
The same happens in Puerto Rico.
About the "De" that means nobility in Spain and thats probably the meaning of this part of the last name.
i hope this help

Manuel Sotolongo
