I, too, would like to enter the fray on the DeSoto genealogy research. I read a book written by Abbott in the mid 1830's that suggests Hernando DeSoto might also have been known as "Ferdinand." He fought under Pizarro before exploring the southern U.S. He was married to Isabella (after years of overseas courtship)and lived in Cuba with her for only two years before he died while exploring, so I expect he could have had at most only two or three legitimate children. My grandfather (or great granfather) was Oscar DeSoto, a city manager of Havana. My relatives moved to Miami during the Castro takeover. My dad was also named Oscar, as is my brother (who is the IV). My grandmother was Amelia Facciolo Betancourt. I am looking for information on the DeSoto family up the line and can share it down the line. I understand that there is a DeSoto Association of some sort in Florida. It might have info, but I cannot locate it. Any help would be appreciated.
