This is a good question.
Hernando the explorer married Ines de Bobadilla, and left her as de facto governor in Cuba while embarking on his famous Florida expedition.
It is of importance to explore if he left descendants from Ines or any other woman. Any children from Ines would either be born in Spain (he lived there for a couple of years after his first American adventure), or in Cuba. I don't know how likely this was. He probably had brothers in Jerez (Spain) and most De Soto from Extremadura would descent form that line.
There is one Hernando de Soto in Peru (a prominent economist). I would like to know if he claims ancestry from Hernando the conquistador.
My wife is De Soto and her family is traced from Peru (a Feliciano De Soto came to Chile, and his son Nivaldo married a welsh (Davies) in Chile. So this Feliciano is my wife's great-great-grandfather. Any information about this Peruvian line is appreciated.
