Dear Dale,
G'day from downunder. I hope you can help me as I have been trying to trace my father and his background (that is a bit cloudy) for some twenty years. The other week I approached the Australian National Archives here in Perth, Western Australia, and found one copy of a hand written letter from my father to the police in 1945. He seemed to be a bit concerned by his illegal alien status. He mentioned that he served with the 2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment in WWI under the name of Clarence Henry DETERT & his NOK was his father, Julius Henry DETERT from Concordia Missouri. Dad was born in the Phillipines on 1st May 1896 and apparently his parents returned to the states without him. He arrived in Australia in 1915.
It also appears that he changed his name after WW1 for some reason.
If you could help in any way I would be most grateful.
Best regards,
Jim.
