Louis Detweller Is Ludwig Jakob Daetwyler. The 'ae stands for wnlauted a. Notes from Pearl Detweiler: "My grandfather, Louis Detweiler, was born in Switzerland in May 1811, served in the army for three years, was a carpenter by trade, worked three years in Naples, Italy before coming to America. While he was of Swiss ancestry and grew to manhood in Switzerland, he was realty born in France. My grandfather said that his ancestors had lived in Switzerland at least 500 years prior to his birth. He gave the occupation of his ancestors as follows: time maker, calico printer, doctor.
He came to America about 1840 via New Orleans and the Mississippi River to St. Louis. He bought a farm near Catawissi on La Bark Creek, where he followed farming and also worked as a carpenter. He married Phoebe Ann Hyatt about 1842 (actually 15 June 1841]. She was of early English stock emigrated from Kentucky. To this union eleven children were born -. seven boys and four girls. All grew to manhood and woman hood and lived to quite old age. James died of fever while serving in the Union Army, Lizzie and Maggie both married and had two or three children each, but both died I think in the twenties.
All had large families with the exceptions of William (two children) and
Anne Clary (one child). The children in order of their age are James, Jacob,
Louis Clark, William, Mary, Albert, Maggie Van Horn, Lizzie, Anne Clary, Arnold
W., and Francis. I should have mentioned Mary as Mary Grampp. I do not know
If any are living at the present time. Possibly Arnold. [There is no date on
Aunt Pearl's notes. There was also an Elizabeth, or Lisa, between Anne CLary
and Arnold].

also note John Louis Detweiler       buried at Lebanon Mo with tombstone showing wife Phoebe Hyatt naming all there children and stating place of birth
