Devendorf family NY to MI
Posted by: Jacki Wilson Date: July 20, 2001 at 20:09:57

I just recently found that my Mary Alma Berry's maiden name was Devendorf.

Mary Alma and her husband Orlando and children lived in Grand Rapids, Kent County, MI. However, all census records for them show that the family originally came from New York.

With her husband Orlando having died in 1905, I thought that I would give it a shot looking for her alone or with one of her sons in a later census. Jackpot! The 1910 Grand Rapids, MI census shows Mary Alma Berry as head of household living with her two brothers Charles J, and Dan Devendorf. All, originally, from NY with the exception of Dan who was born in MI.

Does anyone else have any Devendorfs in the MI area in the 1850-present time frame?

I would love to hear from anyone who's line might match mine, or who may have any information on who these siblings parents may have been in New York. It is a mighty big state!

Thanks, Jacki
