I don't know how I missed you. Laura Rexford Bennett was my gr-gr-grandmother, who ran off with George M. Devendorf in 1869 or 1870 from Benton County, OR and ended up in Tehama County in the census you mention. She and her first husband William Bennett went through a nasty divorce in 1870 Benton County, OR. Left 4 surviving children. Am working with Laurine Amo to track down this connection.

Would like to hear from you. Do you know anything at all about what happened to Laura and George? They disappear from the planet after that census.
