I came across the following newspaper item in "The Times", London, 10 Mar 1837. This is not my line, but it may be of use to someone on this list.
"A melancholy and fatal accident happened on Tuesday last to Mrs. Deverell of Frankley, the widow of the late Mr. John Deverell, who has lead the life of a recluse since the death of her husband. One of the servants passing the door of her chamber perceived a smell of fire, but knowing that Mrs. Deverell kept her door locked and bolted, least anyone should intrude on her, an entrance was obliged to be made through the window, when the unfortunate lady was found quite dead, having been suffocated by the smoke arising from the bed having caught fire. - Wiltshire Independent."
