Davills to devilles to Sellers

Here is where I have got back to on my father's family tree. The Sellers family became well to do coach makers in Exeter, owning a large coach works behind the Half Moon Inn. My great grandfather's father sold the coach works and tookthe family to New Windsor and his son married and lived in Lambeth for a while at least. ALL the first sons down the generations are called John Alexander and usually John Alexander Rounciful/Rounsiful or variant of that name. Other associated women marrying into the family had the surnames of Cuthbertson and Lendon. But way back as far as I have got it began with John Seller and Rebecca Davills. Any further light anyone can throw on the Davills connection/Devilles gratefully recieved! I plan to write a novel based on the family as they are pretty interesting characters throughout.

In 1789 John Seller of Broadclyst married Rebecca Davills. Rebeca came from Crediton. The marriage is shown as having taken place in Crediton on 17 August. Rebecca signed her marriage certificate 'Rebeckah.'

A John Sellers is listed as a coach driver in the militia list St Lawrence, Devonshire in 1803 so it is likely that John of Broadclyst was born in 1770 and married at the age of 19.

There appears to have been a change of name from 'Seller' to 'Sellers' at some point during John Seller of Broadclyst's lifetime.

A Rebecca Davells was baptised on 26th September 1763 in Crediton. Her Mother was Sarah, and her father Alexander Davells. If this is the same Rebecca then she was older than her husband by seven years.

On 8th October 1790 John Davills Sellers born to John and Rebecca was Christened in Saint Sidwell, Exeter.
John of Broadclyst and Rebecca Davills also had several other children.

Alexander Deauvells Sellers was christened in 1792 at St Sidwell, Exeter and he married Sarah and they had Ann Maria Sellers who was christened at St Olave's, Bermondsey in London on 24 June 1827.
Thomas Sellers was born to John Davills and Rebecca in 1796.
James Reuben Sellers was christened on 4th April 1798 as St Sidwell, Exeter.
Mary Sellers was born to John Davills and Rebecca in 1804
Maria Grainger was born to John Davills and Rebecca in 1809 or 10. There is a discrepancy between her gravestone and the Parish records of one year.
John and Rebecca Davills lived at 14 North Street, Exeter

John Davills married Ann Rouncefil at St Thomas the Apostle's. Exeter on 12th July 1813. Ann was 19 and John was 23.
Ann Rouncefil was christened on 12th June 1784 at St Thomas the Apostle's. Exeter, and she was the daughter of John Rouncefil and Ann.
