Hello Mark

I am interested to note your request as I also have been exploring our old family name of de Vogel.

The name does not appear to be a common one with most of our family since 1800 being born in Schiedam, South Holland.

I have traced our origins back to the village of Langerak, across the river from Oudewater, where Gijsbert de Vogel married into the family of Kartel in 1781. Their son, Jan de Vogel, moved to Schiedam where the family have lived ever since, until my grandfather moved first to England and then to New Zealand, where I was born.

Jan, born Oudewater 1751, had two brothers, Adrianus & Cornelius, and two sisters, Jannigje and Hendrikje, who survived but I have no details of these families.

Do you have any idea where Abraham's origins lie?

Regards

Alan Bird (de Vogel)
