I have a book fron the library that has a Devol. William Clark Devol, pioneer citizev of Steelville and Crawford Co. Mo. His ancestors came to Amarica from Spalding, Linconshire, England, in 1659. They located in Tiverton, colony Rhode Island. His great uncle, Captain Jonathan Devol, served in the Revolutionary Army of Independance when the British invaded R.I.Some of his family ,later, moved to Ohio, and in 1987 when this book wss published his 2nd cousin ,Jerry A. Devol lived in the village that bears the family name Devola Oh. Hiram Devol , his father, came to Crawford Co. Mo. in 1835 and lived on and owned a farm about 7 miles south of Steelville, off what is now Hwy 19. He was married to Matilda Anderson. they had pne son, Williem Clark Devol,b.12-12-1846. His father died in 1849 and his mother was married to David E. Dunlap His mother died in Steelville in 1889, and his step-father in 1888. In 1876 William Clark Devol built a 2 story white frame house in Steelville and in that same year marriedMary Bell Ellis. They had 4 children;Alpha Perle,William Anderson<daphnie, and Donald D, Devol.
