Phebe Devol married Joseph Russell in 1790 in Dartmouth MA (VIR). In 1791 they had a child, HULL RUSSELL, who is my ggg grandfather. In 1797 Hull Russell's name appears in the will of Charles Hull who died 1798-1799 and who was of Tiverton, RI. Chrles Hull names his wife, Phebe, in the will but then goes on to mention Hull Russell, son of Phebe Russell whom I brought up in my family.
He also mentions Sarah Sole, widow of Isaac Soule, whom I call my sister. Zilpha Hammond, my half sister. Friend William Norton.
On 29 July 1800 Phebe Hull and Sarah Sowle, widow, sold their rights in the estate of Charles Hull; in the same year the Probate Court at Tiverton placed widow Phebe Hull under the guardianship of her nephew, Abner Cundall, and in 1803 turned the estate of Phebe Hull over to Abner.
Abner Cundall was the son of Phebe's sister, Elizabeth Devol who married Joseph Cundall. The sisters were sons of Joseph Devol and Margaret Potter. Based on their ages, it is unlikely that Phebe Hull, wife of Charles, could have been the mother of Hull Russell. In Joseph Devol's will of 1787 he names her Phebe Hull, so she is already married to Charles Hull. She could not have married Joseph Russell in 1790.
I would like to know whose child the PHEBE DEVOL was who married Joseph Russell in Dartmouth and had Hull Russell. And what happened to Hull? He was just a little boy of 7 or 8 years when Charles Hull died. I don't know what happened to Hull Russell or his parents, i.e., Phebe Devol and Joseph Russell. Anyone out there who can supply some information or help? Thank you.
