Using the same name reall often in the same family

Can anyone tell me why parents would give so many of their children the same name? For instance Hugh Dewar, born Glenelg Scotland in 1815 and married twice both to 2 different Catherine MacMillans. Must have liked that name too. However, they had 15 children -7 girls and 8 boys. the boys were named Angus, Roderick, Donald Hugh, John Hugh, Lachlan Hugh(Red), Hugh/Ewen, Malcolm Hugh, and Allan Hugh. I have run across this before in my Father's family-he had 4 brothers with the name Peter in it. To me it must be significant.. Can anyone help? Thanks. Mary Bourke
