Sgt. Samuel Dewees/Deweese served in the Revolutionary War from Baltimore Co., MD. He was a recruiting Sgt. One of his recruits was his underage son Samuel who was a fifer. The father became ill at the Battle of Brandywine and was sent to a hospital at that location. The young son was assigned to accompany his father. The father and son moved to at least two other hospitals and then the father died. Young Samuel chose George Sadler of Philadelphia as his guardian. Years later Samuel applied for and received a pension. He was married at least twice. In 1820 he had two young children, Andrew age 5 and Mary age 3. Samuel died Aug. 6, 1856, after which his second wife Julia Ann applied for the pension. Samuel married Julia Ann Feb. 29, 1824.
Who were Samuel and his father? I have information on the Dewees Families of PA but these two men do not seem to belong among them. These men lived in Baltimore Co., MD.
