There are several Dewees families in Maryland. I am researching the family of William Devese, and some relatives of William Henry list the name as "Dewees." This family lived in Baltimore County.
There is also a family is Carroll County, Maryland. An early (1700's) member is listed as "Solomon Dewees."
carroll County is adjacent to Baltimore County, so that may be a connection.
