We have initiated a Dewees Surname Project on June 7, 2010.
Males with the Dewees(e) surname may participate by having their Y chromosome analyzed for comparison to other male Deweeses.
We hope to obtain data to support or refute the commonly held belief among Dewees family historians that
Garrett Hendricks deWees (in 1663) was the male projenitor of the Dewees family in America. We may also find distinct lineages among the Dewees families as well.
Dewees (Deweese, Deweess, Dewese) males are encouraged to participate.
