I have been working on various families in Indiana and ran across Thomas Deweese (1809-1855) who married first to Mary Myers (1827-1840?) and second to Barbara Toothman (1827-1880?). The family line I'm working on potentially descends from Thomas' second wife Barbara. As I was searching and reading the research of others, I noticed that no one has a lead on her after Thomas' death. At this point I have not found her in the 1860 Census, but believe that I have found her in the 1870 as follows:
Logansport, Cass Co., Indiana, p. 197
Allen, Milton (age) 25 M W Teamster (b.) Ind
Allen, Barbara (age) 43 F W Keeping House (b.) Ind
Deweese, Vernon (age) 12 M W (b.) Ind
Harrold, Minerva (age) 10 F W (b.) Ind
Allen, Sarah A. (age) 1 F W (b.) Ind
Deweese, Hiram (age) 22 M W Laborer (b.) Ind
Barbara Allen is the right age to be Barbara Toothman, widow of Thomas Deweese.
The presence of Hiram Deweese in the household supports this theory.
I have not been able to identify Vernon Deweese who was born 3 years after Thomas had died, so I would assume a nephew of Barbara's?
Does anyone know? Am I way off and have accidentally picked up on another group of Deweese's?
