I hae not seen that you received an answer to your question.
Cornelius Dewees was the son of William Dewees of Phila Co PA. He and his younger brother Philip came to SC in the mid 1700s. Philip is my ancestor. William Dewees is a question. Some have said he was a son of Cornelius but he would have been to young to acquire the island, later called Dewees Island. There is some possibiliy that William was the father of Cornelius, but to our knowledge he was never in SC. This may be a clerical error in the records .
