Henry,
I can fully appreciate the hard work and many hours you have put into searching for your ancestors! And the delight you must have experienced when you were able to unlock the mysteries of each generation. It is a difficult task, but fun, too!The joy of the hunt!
Yes, I have seen the DEWING name spelled a great variety of ways...Duing, Duein, Duinge, Dewin, Duin, to name a few. That makes the search even more challenging!Considering how early Andrew Dewing was in Dedham, MA, joining the church there in 1646 (see NEHGR, v.57, p.101+), I suspect he was most likely from England, though nothing has been found to verify that suspicion!
I like to record where the facts are found for each date and place for an ancestor, something more substantial than "from great-aunt Tillie", even though Tillie might have spent her lifetime doing research.Without verified documentation, our many hours digging up details of our ancestors is wasted time, of little value to those trying to build on the details. To date I have found no proof that Andrew Dewing's wife, Dorothy Hyde, was the daughter of Jonathan Hyde and Mary French. In spite of many people believing they were Dorothy's parents, no one has given any proof of that...no deed, no will, etc. That's why I was asking you where you found that connection.I would love to see a copy of the deed or will proving that Dorothy's parents were Jonathan Hyde and Mary French!Among other things, that would mean my husband and I share yet another ancestral couple!I am hopeful you can locate where you found that information so I can fully document it for future generations.
Cheers,
Liz
