Since reading your posting in 2000, I have determined that my Dews are from Oxfordshire. My line coming forward goes as follows:

William Dews

married 'unknown'
father of:

John Dews, christened 23 Jan 1774, Souldern, Oxfordshire

married 'unknown'
father of:

William Dews, christened '1813'
Source for 'christening date': distant cousins research at http://www.btinternet.com/~woodsbj/
married: Jane Gardner
father of: 3 children - Margaret, John, Enoch Henry.

Enoch Henry, born 8 April 1842, Daventry, Northamptonshire

married: Lucy Winslade
father of: Lucy Jane, Edith C., and Alfred J.

Lucy Jane is my gg.grandmother.

Are your dates absolute, or do you have the names of any o the wives? I was wondering if your Amos John Dew might have been a sibling (unknown to me) to my Enoch Henry Dews.
