Carter DEWS - Knoxville, TN 1820s

Seeking information on Carter DEWS, resided Knoxville, Knox county, Tennessee in the 1820s. (wife, marriages, children, ancestry, etc.)

He had 3 daughters all baptized [probably same day in] NOV 1828 at the 1st Presbyterian Church of Knoxville, viz:

- Indiana Virginia DEWS (b. 9 NOV 1822 TN)
- Elizabeth Jane DEWS
- Margaret Oliver DEWS

No mother was listed.

Indiana Virginia DEWS married 25 OCT 1840, Knox Co., TN to Reuben NEWMAN (Jr.), son of Reuben NEWMAN & Katherine OTT.
(The NEWMANs were from the Staunton, Augusta Co., Virginia area; also lived at Woodstock, Shenandoah Co., VA and in Rockingham Co., VA.)

They all moved on to central Ohio. (Ross, Clinton and Highland counties 1850-1880.) Eventually moved to Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio by 1900.

Reuben NEWMAN Jr., b. 29 JUL 1815/16 Staunton, VA; bap. 13 APR 1817 [Peaked Mountain Lutheran Church] McGaheysville, Rockingham Co., VA; and he d. 1 OCT 1894 at Columbus, Franklin Co., Ohio.
(They are both buried there in GreenLawn Cemetery.)
[bap rec gives 1816 for Reuben's birth; gravestone gives 1815; both state same day/mo.; all his census ages calc to 1817.]
