It was long passed down by our family that the name "Dew" came from England and was originally spelled D'hu. Our family originally emigrated to a small town in upstate New York called Canastota [near Syracuse]. The Canastota Dews were headed by A.E. Dew and Frederick W. Dew. They were bankers.

Some years ago I visited Virginia near Richmond and was besieged by people with stories about the Dew family and William and Mary College
