Hi Angela,
Although I can't directly shed light on Daniel Dewsnaps family and Ethel, the following may be of interest:-
Daniel is unlikely to have returned to England, until the Boer War finally ended in May 1902, if indeed he returned at all. He may have settled in South Africa and sent for his family to follow?
I have also found some references to Daniel Dewsnap on the following sites, linked to Winston Churchill who later became M.P. for Oldham, Daniels Home Town.

I also have copies of articles in the Oldham Evening Chronicle about Daniel, and the Manchester Evening News about the sale of the watch by Spinks and Son. Please contact me for TIF files of these.
I hope this is of some use to you.
Roger
