The earliest ancestor is John Dewsnopp born about 1710 England
His son was Francis Dewsnap born about 1735 England
He married Hannah Bream?
They had a son, Francis Dewsnap christened May 21, 1782 Cathedral St. Peter, Sheffield
He married Letitia Milns June 14, in 1807 in Dronfield Parish, Sheffield. They had at least two children- George b.1810, and Francis 1813-1876. (Letitia’s parents were William and Amelia Milns and she was christened April 1783)
George Dewsnap, (Dec.7, 1810-1858). Sheffield, Yorkshire was christened at Cathedral St. Peter, Sheffield January 13,1811.
He married Elizabeth Skelton, (1816- 1910 Sheffield)
In the 1841 Census for Sheffield they are living on Cricket Inn Road in Sheffield Park, with Frank (Francis) b.1838 and Emily b.1839.
The 1851 Census shows the family living @ 80 Talbot Street Sheffield
Children-Francis b.1838, Emily b.1840, Edwin b.1843, John b.1847 and George b.1850, with mother in law Letitia Brailsford b. 1784.
.The 1861 Census shows Elizabeth Dewsnap living as a widow with her 5 children, John Samuel b. 1847 (later married Mary Fowler, and was a spring knife manager), George b. 1850 (later married Rose and was a warehouse man in the cutlery factory), Samuel b. 1852 and George Francis Stuart Dewsnap(. B.1858 Sheffield-d.1897 in Marylebone)
daughter Emily b.1840, and Edwin b.1843.
Their address was #32 Mucro Street, Brightside Bierlow, Sheffield.
The 1871 Census shows the family still living in Brightside Bierlow, Sheffield - the widowed mother Elizabeth, with three children still at home- George 1850-1895 (a pen blade whetter), John Samuel (a spring knife manager), and Samuel b1852(also a pen knife whetter).
John S. eventually married Mary Fowler( daughter of Hannah Fowler) and had children John E. Dewsnap, Mary E. Dewsnap, Lmefred V. Dewsnap and Alice E. Dewsnap, and they lived in Derbyshire.
Edwin Dewsnap married Jane and had children Frank, John, (married Fanny) and he was a Rajor (?) Grinder and remained in Brightside Bierlow.
1881 Census shows Elizabeth living with son Sam who is a Cutlery warehouse man @ 25 Roe Lane Pitsmeer, Brightside Bierlow, Sheffield, and in 1891 living with Samuel still, but at #83 Oakland Rd. Ecclesaw, Yorkshire. She died at the age of 94 in 1910 in Sheffield.
George Francis S. Dewsnap married Elizabeth Holland (b. abt. 1853 d. 1892 Sheffield), They married in Sheffield in Sept.25,1876.
Elizabeth Holland’s parents: George Holland b. 1829 (parents Joseph and Ann Holland of Lead Mill Road Sheffield) and Mary Ann b. 1833
The Hollands lived at #85 Duke Street Sheffield, Yorkshire in 1861. Elizabeth had 2 siblings, Albert born 1860 and Charles, born 1855.
The 1881 British Census shows George and Elizabeth Dewsnap living at Granville Lane 36,Sheffield, Yorkshire and they have two children; Earnold Percy Stuart (b. 1880 in Sheffield) and Eleanor b.1877. George Francis Stuart Dewsnap is a Pocket blade Grinder.
The 1891 Census shows the family living at 424 Edgware Road, Marylebone, and George listed as a Dental Instrument Maker, and Earnold is a Dental steel burr cutter.
1901 Census shows Elizabeth Dewsnap living on her own as a widow, still on Edgware Road, next door to George Williams. Her husband George F.S.Dewsnap died in 1897 in Marylebone.
Earnold Dewsnap, in the 1901 Census is listed as a Civil Engineer, living with wife Maud Dewsnap (nee Maude Helena Williams b. 1879 in Marylebone, London) and daughter Irene Annie born 1901 in Paddington.
They are living at Clarendon Gardens, Paddington,London.
Irene Annie died in 1903 in Marylebone.
Maud Helena Williams and Earnold Stuart Dewsnap were married in December 1899 in Marylebone, London Middlesex.
Later they had Gwendolyn Florence b. 1901 in Marylebone, London
Edward Haymer b. 1907 in Paddington
