Rodman Dexter, Dexterville, Oswego co., NY 1829
Rodman Dexter founded a hamlet in Oswego co., NY called Dexterville in 1829.The area was very lonely.More a clearing in the woods with a log cabin on it.For a long time there were only three families.By 1851 Rodman had built a steam sawmill. It burned down by 1859, but was rebuilt by Erastus Dexter.In 1873 the mill was town down.
Rodman married Elizabeth Tallman before 1830.They had 12 children, with only 7 surviving.Rodman died in 1874 and his wife in 1881.
Jonathan was born 10 Sept. 1830.When 21 he took over the mill.He also went West working as a stone mason.In 1894 he returned to Dexterville.In 1844 at Fulton, NY he had married Rosette Cunningham.They had 10 children, of whom 5 survived.They were:Llillie, Alice, Jennie, Charles and Jesse.His wife died in 1889.in 1891 Jonathan married Nellie Guyle of Fulton.They had a son, Jonathan, Jr. born 18 July 1892.
