Nora,
So glad to get your follow-up response. Sylvanus and his connections is indeed perplexing. Let me add a bit more information but please understand I am not sure of it. Here goes:
SYLVANUS DEO, also known as Sylvanus Deyo, b. Feb 1801/2 in Schoharie Twp (Schoharie) NY, occupation Labourer, d. 3 Jul 1877 in Portland Twp (Frontenac) Ontairo, Canada, buried: in Harrowsmith, Ontairo, Canada. Portland Township is around Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He bought land from the Canada Co. 9-4-1830. Also bought Crown Land in Loughborough Twp. in 1854 & sold to three of his sons: Daniel, Schuyler, & Sidney. He was a United Empire Loyalist. (was U-116) 1851 census; age 50, with 1 storey log house, 1 in family. He married (1) AURILLA JACKSON, married 3 Nov 1829, d. c1838. He married (2) JAMINA WALKER, b. 1813 in (Frontenac) Ontario, Canada, d. 11 May 1900 in Loughborough Township.
Children by AURILLA JACKSON:
i MARIA DEO, b. 21 May 1831. She married ROBERT SLACK.
ii ABRAHAM DEO, also known as DEYO, b. 1835, d. 24 Feb 1885. died @ 50. He married SARAH E PAGE, married 25 Jun 1861.
iii SCHUYLER S DEYO, b. 4 Jul 1835 in Frontenac Ontario, Canada, d. 22 Jun 1888, buried: in Verona Cemetery. 1856 of Lobouro Township, Frontinac Co., married M.E. Church.
Ealaine Barr-Lawlor writes that "After living 9 years in a log cabin and clearing land at Desert Lake [Thirteen Island and Lake], Schuyler built the homestead which still stands. We have their wedding certificate." He married ELIZABETH McKEEVER, also known as McKiever, married 4 Mar 1856 in Frontenac Ontario, Canada.
I obtained this information from a source that I no longer can identify.
Further information about Sylvanus:
According to my records his father was Christoffel Deyo, b. 24 Dec 1749, Kingston, Ulster, New York; mother Nancy Walters (absolutely no other information about her). Christoffel's parents were Christoffel b. 4 Feb 1728, Kingston; d. 26 May 1792, New Paltz, Ulster, New York. He was married to Deborah Van Vliet b. 18 May, 1736, Minisink, Ulster, New York; d. 29 May 1801,Deer Park, Orange, New York.
This last Christoffel was the son of Hendricus Deyo and Margaret Grietjen Van Brommel, etc.
All of this information about the two Christoffels and Hendricus, however does not have internal consistency and something is wrong with the connections. I have been pulling my hair out over it. (There has to be some explanation for my loss of hair).
Now as to Aurilla (and Jamima) There seems to be some confusion about whether Ann and Christopher were Aurilla's or Jamima's offspging.
More on Aurilla (sometimes apparently spelled Arilla). Her parents were Pieter J. Jackson b. 1776 and Hannah Shaver b. 1763? Pieter's parents seem to have been Hendrick Jackson and Sarah Chute (no dates) Sources: Reid, William D., The Loyalists in Ontario (Hunterdon House, Lambertville, NJ: 1973)
I, like you, have more confusion than confidence about these folks but am anxious to share whatever you have too. The connection between Ontario and New York still is unclear.
Should you wish to contact me directly rather than through this more cumbersome manner you may reach me directly at [email protected]
Glad to have any information you can share.
Tom
