DeYoung/DeJong Mystery
I'm researching my family history, my grandfather was Chester DeYoung, born Nov. 26, 1920, possibly in Wisconsin. He had about 10 or 11 brothers and sisters.Where I live in Louisiana, there's a LOT of DeYoungs.I could very possibly be wrong here, but the story I heard about the spelling of the DeYoung name was that my great-grandfather while living in Netherlands got into a fight with two police officers, killing both of them with a knife.Having the authorities investigating the case, he changes his name, moves to the US.One person in my family casually mentioned that the man would smile ever so slightly when recalling this occurrence. As well, there was another story that members of his family were killed in WWII by the Nazis for some reason.A letter arrived at my great-grandparents home from a neighbor in Holland that said his family had been summarily shot in front of their home for some infraction(don't know what). If my story sounds familiar or familiar to some tall tale email me at [email protected].
