I was very interested in your posting from a few years back concerning John Christopher Diehm. I am trying to develop a lineage for my own Diehm ancestor from Noble County, Indiana, Anna Catharina Diehm, the wife of Peter Weimer.
As you probably know, Samuel Weimer was an early settler to Noble County, just as John Christopher Diehm apparently was. One bit of Weimer history I have says that the first German Lutheran services were held at the homes of Samuel Weimer and Christopher Diehm. Samuel Weimer was from the Baden region of Germany.
Although not proved conclusively, it is very likely that my ancestor, Peter Weimer, was the eldest son of Samuel Weimer. There is quite abit of circumstantial evidence indicating that this was their relationship, although it is certainly possible that they were related in some other fashion.
My Peter Weimer was born between 1812-1819 in Germany. As with Samuel Weimer, original land records in Noble County show them spelling their name "Wimer". Peter's wife was Anna Catharina Diehm, who was also born in Germany, probably on August 1, 1814. Most records indicate that she and Peter Weimer were married in Columbiana County, Ohio in 1836, just previous to the Weimer family move to Noble County, Indiana. Most records refer to her by her Americanized middle name, Catharine.
Several Weimer researchers believe that she was a sister to John Christopher Diehm, but I am somewhat skeptical of this given the large gap in their ages. I had always wondered if she were a daughter, but your research does not note a daughter by that name. I was curious as to whether or not you had come across her in any of your research?
I have also seen reference to the John Christopher Diehm who apparently left Germany in 1843 to join his "cousin" Samuel Weimer in America; but wasn't your John Christopher Diehm in Noble County much earlier than this?
Any information you could share wth me on the Diehm family of Noble County, Indiana would be greatly appreciated.
