Friedrich - Thank you for your reply. What do you mean by "He had 6 children when leaving but only 300 Fl. ("Gluden")?? Peter told my grandmother that when the family landed in America his little brother, William, was lost when they were un-boarding the ship. People were passing the small children down over the side of the ship, but Peter wasn't going to be tossed over the side and he climbed down a rope. The family stayed and looked for William, but never found him. - Karen

"Gulden" was an old German currency, the abbreviation for it is "Fl." or "fl." - like still in the Netherlands today. "Fl." means "Florentiner",derived from the Italian city Florenz. The entry in the Wertheim files tells us that Christoph Diehm had six children when leaving but only 300 Fl. Hope this helps, Friedrich
