Mathias Diemer immigrant to OH 1837
Through US Census research and the finding of a passenger ship's manifest, I have discovered that my great great great great grandfather Mathias Diemer b 1788 and wife Elizabeth b 1791(no maiden name known) left Bavaria through Lehavre, France in 1837 and arrived in New York City on 7/24/37.Children were Maria 19, Joseph 17, John 14 (my great 3 grandfather), Mathias 12, Christina 10 and Jacob 8.We think they were from area of St. Wendel/Oberkirchen/Kusel/Reichenbach in the Rheinland/Pfalz region of Germany, even though they claimed on the passenger list as well as 1850 and 1860 US Census that they were from "Bavaria."
They settled in Henry Co. Ohio (western portion) and were there by 1840. They named their village New Bavaria. As Catholics, they helped build the Sacred Heart Church. We do know that the family married many timesinto the Wilhelm and Wein families. These families are known to have come from the Rheinland/Pfalz villages mentioned above.

(I live in Washington, DC area).I'd love to hear from you. I want to determine exactly where in Germany Mathias Diemer lived.
