The spelling of the name as I have it, is Deter. I have an 86 page booklet entitled:

The Deter Family History,
A Genealogy,
Beginning with Johann Georg Dieder,
Born in 1739

It was compiled from 1952 to 1965 by:
Eunice Deter
Geraldine Deter &
Theodore Deter

Here is a rough outline of the family tree:

1. Johann Georg Dieder
...+Mari Catherine
....2. Johannes Diter
....2. Anna Marie Diether
....2. Elisabetha Diter
....2. Johann Georg Dieder 1775-1850 (referred to as George)
.......+Mari Catherine
........3. Martha Deter 1805-1854
...........+Samuel Bocenstose
........3. George Deter 1806-1864
...........+Elisabeth (Sanders) Bishop (a widow)
........3. Polly Deter 1807-1884
...........+Martin Sollenberger
........3. Andrew Deter 1809-1889
...........+Elisabeth Hoover
........3. David Eckford Deter 1817-1897
...........+(1st) Susan Zeigler
...........+(2nd) Virginia Ann Wilkinson
........3. Elijah Deter about 1817-1902 (never married)
........3. Harry Deter about 1819-?

According to the book, as to Harry Deter:
"He emigrated to Indiana, living close to his brother, George Deter. They lived near Corunna, Dekalb County, Indiana. He moved from there to Illinois taking his family in a covered wagon. It is believed he had several children. When Uncle Michael Deter was a small boy, he said his father (Andrew) had a letter saying that Uncle Harry had died and requested him to come to Illinois to help settle the estate."

I realize there are many spellings of Deter. Hopefully someone will recognize Harry. One of the Deter girls married my 2nd great-grand Uncle.
