I am seeking information regarding Henry O. Diffenderfer, born about 1797 in Pennsylvania, cabinet maker. He was married to Mary B. ? born about 1813 in Maryland. They may be the Henry Oliver Diffenderffer and Mary B. Smith married on May 2, 1833 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Henry appears to have moved around:
In 1835 and 1837 Henry O. listed in Baltimore Directory.
In 1840 Census: Henry O. and Mary listed in Warwick Twp., Lancaster County.
In 1850 Census: Henry O. and Mary are listed in Penn Twp., Lancaster County.
In 1860 Census: Henry O. and Mary are listed in Shrewsbury Twp., York County. He is listed as a farmer(?). In his household are living Sarah Betts, age 13 and Lilly Betts, age 6 both born Maryland.
In 1870 H.O. and Mary are listed in Manheim Borough (Sporting Hill PO), Lancaster County. In his household are living Sallie Betz, age 21 and Lilly Betz age 16, both born Maryland.
In 1880 Mary appears to be a widow, living with Rebecca H. Smith (single, sister), and Clayton Smith, (single, nephew).
Note that there is a different Henry and Mary (Glass?) Diffenderfer that lived in Baltimore County in 1800s. That Henry was born in about 1810 and was a carpenter. His relationship to Henry O. is unknown.
I am trying to find a connection between the Diffenderfer/Defenderfer family and the Betts/Betz family.
I believe that my gggrandmother Sarah Betts, born October 1846 in Baltimore City was one of the girls living in the Diffenderfer family. She is the daughter of Edward Betts and Ann Elizabeth Metcalfe. Edward died in 1859 in New Freedom, Shrewsbury Twp. Sarah married Richard Lewis in 1872 in Manheim, Lancaster County.
