"Norfolkshire" was taken from the tombstone of my great great grandfather, Francis Diggins, which, of course, was prepared by someone else after his death in (what was then) Galt, Ontario in 1879. When he remarried in 1860, he said that he had been born in "Norfolk" and that his parents were William Diggins and Sarah Hunt. When his son, Andrew, died in 1913, his daughter in law said that he had been born in London. All his children were using the surname "Diggon" by 1880 though in transition "Diggons" was sometimes used.
I don't have any other information about the English origins of this family.
Francis's first wife, Elizabeth Mercer, was born about 1818 in Kinloss, Scotland. I don't know where they married. She died in 1858 in Galt.
