As far as I know my family "diggins" decended from the isle of guernsey- english origin. As far as I know, the name has not changed spelling. I have been reading about some "diggins" here that seem to have roots in Ireland. My family tree, as far as I know, has no record of Ireland, or of the name changing spelling. I am starting to think that there are two major "diggins" chains in the US- the majority of which settled in the northeast. ie : PA, DE, NY, MD, NJ, etc.
I hope this helps.
