Hi Julie,
Like I said in my earlier email, I really can't give you much information right now. I can tell you this. I'm betting that Catherine's name is Carr rather than Curran. Carr is a very common name in Guysborough Co, where Curran is not.
I do believe there is a connection somewhere. I was talking to a man a few years ago, also a Diggins, whose great grandfather, or great-great, came to Nova Scotia from Ireland. His name, appropriately enough, was Patrick.
Like I said earlier, if I can find out anymore information for you, I will let you know. This geneology stuff is quite fun!
