Hi Jean, I have Diggan family who were forced to change their name to Dugan. At the end of the civil war, the paymaster made Catherine Diggan change her name to Dugan to collect her widows pension. She agreed, as she had five sons to raise. The soldier was John McMasters Diggan. His line has been lost to us. These Dugan's lived in PA. Some moved to NY and other areas.
