DIGGLE _Wm. Marvin Diggle CD, BF., AFCASI, P.Eng. Colonel (Group Captain) RCAF/CAF ret'd. Born Saskatoon, SK October 14, 1917; Died December 18, 2003. Son of Carl Entwhistle and Lottie May Clarke Diggle. Predeceased by his parents, his wife Mary Elizabeth Bennett, by his sister Avril Lois McCreadie (Hugh), and by three sons, Robert Marvin (Karen Hammil), Brian Christopher and Scott Clarke. Survived by son, Marshall Bennett (Diane Hughes); and daughter Marta Mary Grey (Jack Grey); by thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren; and by his sister, Eileen Vida Mcphie (Lou). Altogether they have been his pride and joy. His professional career spanned thirty years as engineer, trainer, director, technical administrator and commanding officer, principally in the RCAF/ CAF. Each of his assignments permitted him to work with competent, loyal and dedicated men and women. His family takes pride in the result of his work as the RCAF Project Engineer in the development of the Argus, the premier submarine hunter-killer of the 1960's and 1970's, the only aircraft ever designed specifically to satisfy Canada's maritime air commitment to NATO. However his personal satisfactions that stand out above others were a) the respect of his peers; b) initiating and authorizing the Maple Leaf the RAF red circle in the RCAF roundel; and c) serving as the thirty third Commanding Officer of RCAF Station Camp Borden, the Birthplace of the Royal Canadian Air Force. When he retired from the Armed Forces he was called to the ministry, serving as an itinerant elder for the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (now known as the Community of Christ), principally in the Ottawa and North Saskatchewan districts. There will be a memorial service held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 22, 2003 in the church at 888 Byron Ave., Ottawa. Donations to World Accord; 145 Columbia St. W., Waterloo, ON N2L 9Z9 would be much appreciated. His body will be cremated; his ashes will be interred with those of his wife Mary in Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa.
