This is tantalisingly close, but there's nothing at all concrete about it. My g-g-grandfather Thomas Dignan (but born in 1840) moved to Midlothian from northern Roscommon at about that time, presumably with his parents Bernard (b 1815) and Mary Dignan... it's probably wishful thinking to suggest that Bernard and your Thomas were brothers, but if you find out any more names from that far back, it'd be great if they connected up!
