I have been researching the Dignan's starting from my Grandmother - Sarah Dignan (Born 1886) daughter of James Dignan (born 1865)son of Thomas Dignan (born 1843)son of Bernard Dignan (born 1821) and Mary Daly (Born 1821).
From the Census of 1851, it appeared that Bernard and Mary Dignan travelled to Edinburgh between 1844 - 1850 along with their family. The occupation of Bernard and Mary was recorded as Braziers (Brassworkers). All family members (Mary(14 yrs), James (11), Thomas (9), Bridget (7) and Elenor (1 yr)) were born in Ireland with the exception of the youngest Elenor (?) who was born in Edinburgh.
Tracing their whereabouts before they travelled to Edinburgh has proved unsuccessful. In addition, no further record of Bernard and Mary Dignan appears in subsequent censuses in Scotland.
The details recorded in the earlier notes may assist me so many thanks.
