I have Dilks/Dilkes in my family born in Newtown Linford, Mountsorrel, Rothley and surrounding villages of Leicestershire, going back to 1720. George Dilks, one of 7 children, born to Sarah Dilks who appears to have been unmarried, is my husband's grandfather. After the 1871 census all the family including Sarah are called Adams. Sarah's grandmother was an Adams. It has yet to be established why the name was changed.
Gill Adams
