Connie Dillow from the Va Dillow's thought we might be English from the Va Dillow's but DNA testing is definite the Va ones descend from Pierre Dulon from France to PA.
The Va Dillow's and Pierre Delon's family in Pa has a DNA testing result of 35/37 matches which shows definite kinship and a common ancestor. The oldest of the Va Dillow's is elder Peter Dillow, Sr.
The Va census records shows Peter Dillow, Sr.having a birthdate of 1757 in Va. I don't know his parents except someone from Pierre or Nicholas Dulon. Delon, etc. family is kin to him someway by the DNA results.
When elder Peter Dillow, Sr died I found this record at theState Library in Charleston, West Virginia in a book entitled, "Death Notices Transcribed From Berkeley County Newspapers 1803-1855."It said, " 18 Nov 1851 Tuesday.... Died on last Sat. week, near Keyes Ferry on the Blue Ridge in Jefferson County, Peter Dillow, aged about 100 years. He
was a citizen of this county for 73 years."Census records are often wrong. Peter Dillow, Sr was born 1757 and died in 1851 that means he spent the first 21 years of his life elsewhere.
In the 1850 Jefferson County census he was listed as 93 years old. But both Pa and the Va groups had the same given names in the same time period of Peter,John,Charles,William and Thomas and the two families only lived approximately 30 miles apart with only a small part of Maryland separating them.
As far as Pierre he had 100 acres surveyed in Lancaster in 1736,Pierre or Peter buys land in Berwick Township in 1762.
Of Pierre's family there is Michael Delow in Berwick
Township in 1762 and a John Dillow in Cumberland Township 1768-1783 in land and taxes.Later there is a Joseph
Dillo in Berwick Township in 1799 where he paid taxes.
There is a Nicholas Delon in York County, Pa in 1766 buying land in Cordorus Township.I think the surname eventually became Dellone while Pierre's family became Dillon. My Va bunch stayed with Dillow. There is more info on these families in a book where all Va and Pa researchers submitted their data and it is entitled "Early American Delo Families" or something like that. Frank S. Delo was the first author with David Delo taking it over after Frank was not involved anymore. I have a copy of it.There are records in France of the ones that Pierre Dulon descends from.
MHD's Dillow's do not match at all in DNA testing with the PA and Va ones.
I still don't know who MHD's parents are. I have seen the books at Stinson Library.
