Louis Dille, Killed at Gettysburg
The federal listing of National Cemeteries
and the soldiers buried in them, published in
1880, shows Louis Dille, a private in Company
D, 140th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment, is
buried in the Gettysburg Military Cemetery;
Section B, Grave 44.
As a Civil War buff, I would assume that
Louis was killed in the famous Wheatfield,
since that's where the 140th, as part of
Zook's Brigade, Caldwell's Division, was
sent by Gen. Hancock, commander of II Corps,
to assist III Corps troops.
Does anyone know more about Louis Dille?
His regiment was recruited around Washington,
Pennsylvania, and he was quite possibly from
the Prosperity area.
