Ruth last shows up with her family in the 1910 census at the age of 7. She is not longer in the Dilts
home in the 1920 census and Adam has vanished from the West Virginia area. The local newspapers in
Van Wert county report sevaeral visit by Miss Ruth Dilts to he parents home (Mr. and Mrs. Steve Dilts).
Then somehow the two meet and fall in love. The is a mention in the paper on Thursday March 25th
1926 that a marriage liscense was granted to Adam Washington Reel age 43 and Ruth Z. Dilty age 24
both of Lima. So how Adam gets to Lima and meets Ruthz remains a mystery. One must assume that
he is still going by name Adam as newspaper reported it as such. By 1930 they have started a family in
Berkeley WV and his name has changed to Albert. What is odd is that he has changed his name and
moved back to West Virginia and only slightly east of his old stomping ground Keyser. This is one of the
great mysteries in our family.
Ruthz married Adam Reel son of Henry H Reel and Mammie Jane Reed. Adam was born in Jun 1882 in Keyser, West Virginia. He died in 1948 in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio.
Adam Reel was born in the year 1882 but after his first marriage to Virginia Fleck he changed his name
Albert Washington Reel as he is known to his descendants was according to him born: 1st of June 1879.
Henry Sharp (his nephew) remembers Albert living with him for a while. problem is he always called his
uncle Albert "uncle Ad" and thought his name was Adam Reel. Because he was born in 1879 he should
show up in the 1880 census which is very in depth. But to no avail he could not be found either by the
name Albert or Adam. But the following evidence leads one to believe that something happened in his
life that caused him to change his name and birthdate to escape something in his
lifeEvidenceAdam W. REELSex: MBirth: 1882 in Mineral County, West VirginiaMarriage 1
Virginia E. FLECK b: 1872 in New Creek Twp., Mineral County, West VirginiaMarried: 16 Jul 1902 in
Mineral County, West VirginiaAbove is Adam W. Reel son of Henry and Mammie. The fact that he
was born in 1882 explains why he can not be found in the 1880 census as he was not born yet. In the
1880 Census there is a Henry Reed and a Mamie Reed in same area with no children. Problem you will
notice is that the last name is Reed. Is it plausible that when the census taker got to Henry Reel's home,
his wife Mamie answered the door and when the census taker asked this newly married lady her name
she accidentally gave her maiden name and when asked her husband's name said Henry and the name
Reel never was uttered. So the question is why did Adam change his name and his birthdate? Henry
Sharp also remembers Uncle Ad being married to someone else prior to Ruth Z Dilts. The above record
shows Adam married a Virginia Fleck. Below is another record on her first marriage.Name: Virginia E.

1902 in Mineral County, West VirginiaThis Virginia Flick (Fleck) married George Washington Staggs
then marries Adam (Albert). She was ten years older than Adam (Albert) and was previously married.
Both men had Washington for middle names. just some info. He disappears some time after the 1910
census and doesn't reappear again until the 1930 census married to Ruth Dilts and his name and birth
changed Albert and 43 years old puting his birth at 1887. We know from local Middlepoint ohio
newspapers that he lived in lima for a while where he met Ruth and they married in March of 1926. His
employment at this time is listed as mechanic. But at the time of marriage his age is listed as 43 years
old placing his birth in approximately 1883.
During his life he operated a merry-go-round, worked for the rail-road as a brakeman, and traveling
salesman selling advertising materials.
Brakeman-This position was part of a group of workers who switched the train cars! Brakemen road the
car and activated brakes, switchmen switched cars and hooked them together mostly in the yard,
hostlers switched cars but only in the yard, and also moved engines from the yard to the roadhouse,
shunters assembled trains and moved railroad cars around, with a small locomotive, switch-engine
engineers brought cars onto the tracks for the engineers to pick up.
Below are newspaper articles with him or his first wife Virginia E. Fleck.

The vicinity of Bismark was visited by a hail storm last Fri that surpassed anything of the kind ever known

everything in its track was completely demolished. The ground was literally covered with hail. It was
blown and washed into drifts and plenty of it could be seen 24 hours afterward.M F Cosner, Sanford

Reel, Richard Owen 36. Richard Owen Reel (Ruthz Dilts, Stephen Decatur Dilts, William H Dilts, John, Francis) was born on 14 Dec 1929 in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio. He died on 13 Mar 2007 in Sandusky, Erie, Ohio. He was buried Castalia, Ohio.
Richard Owen Reel went by the name of Dick to those who knew him personally. He always said he was
given the middle name Owen because his father was owing all his life. With a sixth grade education one
could never comprehend the self taught abilities this great man had. An inspiration to all, You placed
anything before him to repair, his talented hands and brains would complete the job. It was said that he
once took a car engine that did not work and took it apart piece by piece and then repairing parts as he
went along put the entire thing back together. When the engine was placed back under the hood the
guys around said there is no way that young man with no formal training was going to get that car to
start but when the key was turned all that could be heard was the roar of the engine. As a father and a
person he expected much out of everyone and though his children considered him very strict he also was
their hero. They may not have had the loving embraces, kisses and hugs but deep within that tough ole
boy was the greatest father one could ever ask for.
In the very beginning Richard sat out for employment at New Departure Hyatt which is now Delphi, just
before entering the door at the Ohio Road paving company and asking for a job from Sam Deblase. Dick
got the job and before all was said and done had moved his way up and become supervisor. Richard
offered his superior mechanical skills to Canfield Refuge Services, repairing garbage trucks and building a
40 foot swimming pool from scratch for the Canfield family. There were a good many hours and years
providing his services for the Canfields. The Storage shed behind Excuses bar, which was then Bobs Inn,
Dick and his brother Randy built that many moons ago, and it is still standing. Happy's Welding, Happy
Keel the owner, a man with a wooden leg. It is said that Mr. Keel lost his leg from a motorcycle accident,
but that didn't stop him from being the successful business man that he was. Richard really admired him,
he was an inspiration to him. Dick helped Mr. Keel with welding projects for many of years. I remember
being a youngster and seeing all the great big steel project boats that were incompleted. Happy had his
own private plane to which Richard sometimes operated when Happy was too drunk, not that Dick was
completely sober himself. When you sit inside the Wendys Restaurant on Perkins Ave, window view your
looking directly across the street to the building dead center. Gerold construction, Dick gave a many of
his years to this establishment, maybe a little bit of guilt of renting from John Gerold at a descent price.
Repairing Heavy Equiptment Backhoes, Trojan Loaders, Front End Loaders you name it. His old home
sits on Strub Rd. Everyone in the ole Columbus Park area misses Dick Reel, his Manicured lawn, and
more importantly his helpful hands, and his kind nature.
Cox, Willimenia Grace
Richard married Willimenia Grace Cox daughter of Floyd D Cox and Clarrice Ann Halley on 20 Jun 1949 in Gallipolis, Gallia, Ohio. Willimenia was born on 29 Aug 1930 in Gallipolis, Gallia, Ohio.
